Lately, turtling has become a very popular and powerful strat
Currently, i know that Vogon 6 (top 10) and Hercules (top 20) are turtling, and doing well.
So just how do they manage to do get so big when they literaly have 1k goons for an offence???
Basic turtling is REALLLLY simple:
1. Planet Type = F&W
2. Buildings =
~40% res,
~30% barracks (adjust as needed),
~15% power,
~15% probes (you can adjust these slightly, very basic)
3. Explore a lot - Don't be afraid to be landfat, you will have a high defence - Dont always explore max after the first week, start exploring only about 60% of max
4. Military - During newb mode, trian max soldiers at all times, with using extra $$$ for some scis and LTs
near end of newb mode, build MAX LTs possible, for a full day, 90% of your $$$ shuld be spend building them - you should have enough soldiers. - Traine about 1-2k troppers for inac hitting/suiciders
When out of newb mode, keep building about 80% LTs, and keep at 1-2k troopers. Build the rest as scis.
Research - put your starting scis on pop bonus, and over newb mode, max out Pop, mil and money bonus (you can do power if you wish) - then research in about this order:
Fusion Power
LDs
Goons
Energy Core
Fighters
versudien
longevity
then whatever is left (Scouter is not needed, as you dont attack - same as warp core)
As you're playing you shuold always try to have your military and probe sheilds max - probe shields are more important, as people could have fun kidnapping you.
Some of the more advanced players, once they reach 400-500k pop, and they have a suitable LD defence (you shuold have more than enough to force people to either bash or suicided to break you) - they will start mass producing goons - (about 30k a day, while still training a few LDs). Doing this, they can soon start making large attacks, increasing honor, and still being unbreakable.
THis is the basic outline, many people change as they go.
